Blood Shot Eyes

You didn’t really do anything to deserve it, but one morning you woke up and there they were __ the biggest, reddest pair of eyes staring back at you from the mirror. What can you do to keep from looking like you spent the weekend on the town? Plenty !

Often, the cause of eye redness is simply a lack of sleep. Without a full seven to eight hours of sleep, your eyes do not get the chance to rehydrate, so they dry out and turn red. Arrange to catch up on your sleep. Your eyes and your body will thank you.

If sleeping regular hours is impossible for you, wet a washcloth with cool water and lay it across your closed eyes for awhile. The dampness will rehydrate your eyes, and the coolness can constrict the blood vessels in your eyes, decreasing their redness.

For many people, it’s easy to reach for over-the-counter drops like visine, which promise to take the red out. The way these drops work is they constrict the blood vessels in your eyes. The drawback to drops is the effect only lasts for a couple of hours, and then the redness comes back worse than ever. So , try not to use over-the-counter drops too often.

If you feel a need for added moisture in your eyes, buy some artificial tears. Unlike other drops, they don’t have any blood vessel-constricting additives and can be used any time.
